Yesterday was my pick of solo Thomas Dolby, but I also said that he worked with a lot of other artists. Not surprising as he's a great keyboard player and musician. All these tracks in today's pick have him featured in one way or another. He wrote or cowrote some of the songs. He played on on most all of them, too. And I through in some solo stuff that I didn't fit in yesterday. Only two tracks are duplicated and they have different versions here. Soft Boys and Robyn Hitchcock is pretty obvious. As is the George Clinton as they worked together on several projects. Lene Lovich appeared on his solo stuff (and wouldn't it be cool to hear Dolby's version of this song he wrote?). The two that I was initially surprised about was Foreigner and Def Leppard! It makes sense when you listen to the tracks. See the influence on Foreigner by listening to Dolby's song Urges. You can hear his sound on both though. It's less obvious on the Ofra Haza and the Belinda Carlisle, but listen carefully. Anyway, have fun with this one. I did. Notice the covers for today and yesterday. I played off the Dolby brand with the font. Added his picture subtly, and added some spacey, electric background textures. Fun.

Can you please enlighten me about the connection with the fantastic song Getting Nowhere Fast. He has a collaboration on the album Pleasure. And the singles are not on the album and a year earlier.
ReplyDeleteThe deluxe version of the album says that he was playing keyboards

ReplyDeleteAgain, the link here with kaddish and Thomas Dolby seems nowhere. He works on two tracks from the album, but not mentioned on Kaddish.
The same with Duck Rock from Malcolm MClaren, additional keyboards, but on the singles, eps, etc of Buffalo Gals, no mention. McLaren was a right dude, so I give you the benefit of the doubt.
Def Leppard - Photograph, also, I cannot find a connection. please be so kind and tell me.
Drum programming, backing vocals and keyboards and also cowriter of one other track on album as well as producer of two tracks (but not Kaddish)
DeleteAs for Buffalo Gals, Dolby did the drum beats. Trevor Horn said he was instrumental in the sound of the song
DeleteOn Def Leppard he appeared as Booker T Boffit
ReplyDeleteName was given to him by Mutt Lange
DeleteBooker T Boffin, (not Boffit)
DeleteThank you, very kind. Never guessed the Def Leppard one.
ReplyDeleteI still dispute the Girls at Our Best one, but anyway you do far too much good a job to get all hot and bothered about. Again Thanks for the effort
You never know for sure. I just go by the album cover and who knows if it is actually accurate? I've found some that are off over time. And some have weird names that throw you off. Like the Def Leppard, I ended up verifying with a Dolby interview on YouTube where he talks about it
