What's The Connection? Vacation (repost)

Repost  of this one from 2022: People tend to take vacations in the summer, although for many it's been staycations or having a holiday at home. But this was made some time ago, before the really bad inflation and huge gas prices. All the songs have vacation in the title. Yes, I know that some people say they go on holiday (that's another WTC?). This one is strictly a vacation connection. I knew I had to have the Go-Go's in here, the rest went around that. What's The Connection? Sunshine (repost)

Another repost with new links and new blurb: Every long weekend seems to reach the same point. The fireworks are over, the coolers are a little lighter, somebody forgot to put the lawn chairs away, and life starts easing back toward normal. Then the sun comes up, the coffee tastes just as good, and somehow summer keeps right on going. Maybe that's the best part about this season. Even after the celebrations are over, there's still another sunny day waiting. It's hot out so do something that cools you off. This Connection follows sunshine in just about every mood imaginable. Sometimes it warms things up, sometimes it disappears, and sometimes it shows up exactly when it is needed most. What's The Connection? Summer (repost)

This is a repost with new links from four years ago with a whole new blurb: Summer always seems a little shorter than I remember. Maybe that's because we try to pack so much into it before the days start getting shorter again. Beach trips, backyard cookouts, vacations, long evenings that somehow disappear too quickly, and all the songs that end up becoming part of those memories. It doesn't really matter what year they came from. Every summer eventually finds its own soundtrack. This Connection stays with one season from beginning to end, wandering through breezy afternoons, hot city streets, romance, nostalgia, and just enough sunshine to make you forget how hot it actually is. Happy Anniversary! (repost)

Repost: This connection or pick of anniversary songs is because today is my anniversary. Been married quite a while (since '07 if you want to know). I actually celebrate it twice a year six months apart because we had a church wedding six months after our actual wedding. Makes it kind of fun. Now these songs, however, are not all celebratory, but they do all have Anniversary in the title. Just don't play them for you other half and expect it to be all nice-nice. Some are. Some are not. I keep hoping there will be a better, newer anniversary song to celebrate, than the Little River Band, which isn't really about their anniversary, but celebrating that his significant other is happy with someone else. But it sounds happy! Oh well! Duran Duran is more in line with the sentiment, but it's not their best song.

Repost of this pick: Bay Area band (Oakland, Caifornia) Y&T also known as Yesterday and Today hasn't done much lately, but were and are influential in the area of heavy metal. At least one member of Metallica started playing because of this band. Anyway, as a California boy, I liked the band and I love making RIYL compilations every now and again. Kinks Kovers Repost

Repost: This was fun to do. But also frustrating at the same time. I like the Kinks and originally was making a pick of my favorite Kinks songs. But I got to the frustrating part. The Kinks are great songwriters and sometimes great at recording. They are too British for me at times and my favorites are sometimes not anywhere near the top listened to songs by the Kinks. I compare them to the Who, but the Who were better in the studio. For instance, You Really Got Me. A great song. But Van Halen does it way better than the Kinks. In fact I like that song done better by 801 with Brian Eno. And Stop Your Sobbing. There is no doubt that the Pretenders do a much better version of the song. So that's not true for every song. But definitely a few. So I took some of my favorite covers of Kinks songs and put this together. Not an end all be all covers collection, just some of my favorites. Many versions of songs on this one. Some of my favorites: Shonen Knife, The Fall, Stranglers, The Jam, Nancy Sinatra, etc.

This repost connection is about working. I included jobs, hours everything about work in the USA. That means not all of them have work in the title, but they are all about having to work. In the Coal Mine, In the Car Wash or in the office, it's all work. A couple where people are tired of working (for good, or just until the next day and are stopping for a drink at the bar to recharge) and at least one about finding work. One of my favorites is the Rush song from early pre-Neil Peart Rush. It shows where they were going and is the best early Rush you will find.

Not much I can say about this pick. Do You Wanna Dance was a playlist I made years ago on cassette. I redid it on CD and now as a playlist. I loved making cassettes at the time. It took real time to record. As for this pick, it's just songs I considered to be danceable. I probably have played every one of these songs at a gig somewhere way back then. When you play this, you will feel your butt start to wiggle, because these are very danceable. Tell me what you like (or don't) and what you would place in it's stead. Bliksem 1 (Repost)

Repost of this playlist pick I called Bliksem. That is Dutch for Lightning. Not because it has anything to do with weather at all. But I started with Blitzkreig Bop and Ballroom Blitz, which all kinda mean lightning in German. The idea was to get songs that matched in intensity, if not speed of those songs. I guess it could be RIYL those songs. You could possibly use this as a playlist to run, or ski, or just to drive to. What's The Connection? Jungle repost

Repost of one of the first posts on this site back in November 2021: A wide variety of songs with Jungle in the title. This Jungle What's the Connection? was inspired by my listening to Bootsy Collins and the Jungle Brothers at this time (over and over again). I got mesmerized by the two albums (EP and album). So i started thinking of other Jungle songs I liked. This is what came out. I am positive that there are hundreds more. Tell me your favorite Jungle song in the comments. All in BPM order per disc. Now that it's a playlist you can reorder it as one and I did give you a playlist as separate discs and as one. Just add to yesterday's post and it's all there. It was never a mainstream magazine, but one known to DJ's and clubbers. Now the mag doesn't exist except online. Use as your guide to a nice set of classic mixes.

Mixmag 25 Years 1 Repost

Repost: Mixmag was a magazine for dance music and clubbing. Unless you are completely in to that or are a club DJ you probably didn't subscribe. Now they are online only. They put out yearly lists and reviews of club songs and mixes. Sometime in their history they put out a list of 25 years of mixes. I collected them all and made two CD's worth of music. So kind of my pick, but really theirs. They are each in order of BPM, so you could use two discs to mix the whole thing. Today I post the first disc, and tomorrow the second. Great for a dance club set.

What's The Connection? Route 66 (repost)

Repost of this, because it's my 66th birthday today! I even updated the links! I understand that this connection is horribly inadequate. There are way too many versions of Route 66 or about Route 66 to really do this justice. But these are the main ones I have. I even put the Eagles and Jackson Browne in because it was about Route 66. Nat King Cole will always be my definitive but I must say that Depeche Mode has caught my ears in recent times with their version. I especially like the mashup version with their other hit. I first heard it on a single and I have loved it ever since. If you have another great version I didn't bring up on this list please leave it in the comments. I would love to hear it. Great song! I traveled along Route 66 before and it was very fun, even if it doesn't actually go all the way through any longer, the historic route is there. I stood on the corner in Winslow, Arizona and it was a site to see. I recommend that everyone do it at least once.

What's The Connection? Tax Day Repost

Repost: This is the day that's most hated by pretty much everyone, except for IRS agents and Tax Preparers. If you voted me in to be King, I would get rid of the federal income tax and abolish the IRS. There. Everyone feels better. It's fair to everyone. No one pays. Then we could charge for use. The states could still do what they want, tax or not. But this is not about politics. This is about music. Here are some songs about taxes in this What's The Connection? Classical Gas (repost)

I posted this originally in 2022, but the link was bad and someone emailed and asked for a reup. So here it is: These are all songs with some sort of link to classical music. Elements of classical music, based on a classical song etc. Not just featuring violins or an orchestra on this pick. For instance the Toy Dolls play a classical song, but they do not sound like a classical orchestra (at all). There are plenty more that could be considered that I did not include like songs that are based on a classical melody, but were completely changed. I also added some songs that just mentioned classical artists: Like Play Bach, Rock Me Amadeus, etc. I had several more that I could have added, but I limited it to what fits on a CD. So you miss Gazebo's I Like Chopin. Anyway there are tons more. Somewhere on  Butterboy's blog he has a multi-disc compilation with lots more. I made this one before I ever saw his and I tried not to look at his version as I was writing this, so it would be just what I remember when I put this together. After I heard Bohemian Rhapsody for the first time, I thought it was brilliant and predicted that a lot more bands would try to do songs like that. I was wrong. some had done it before and some after, but no rush to emulate that.
