Here in the United States, we're having elections. Every November 4th there are some elections somehwhere here. Not the major one (every four years) nor the midterms (next year) but this one will be important for certain areas of the country. Who knows how it will turn out, but having elections is part of being free (which is the connection today). It's part 4, so you know you can find more Free songs by searching. Some cool free songs today, so add them to your  collection of freedom. It's funny how for the last month or so people have been protesting about not being free and yet they can only protest, because they are free. It's ironic?

This continues the WTC of free songs. Songs with free in the title. I did a part 1 of free in November of last year. And part two wasn't that long ago, but in February. Part three includes a Les, a Lou, and two Lee's. The original by the Rolling Stones (the Soup Dragon cover featured in one of the previous connections). Some Pink Floyd and some Frank Zappa. Dan Hartman with a cover. And Jimi to start it all off. I figure any compilation with both Loretta Lynn and Prince is pretty good. But if you add Gil Scott-Heron and Queen it's a notch above good.

I don't remember the movie much, but I remember the feeling when I saw it. I was younger and I saw it on TV. The movie was Born Free and the title track of the song as done by Matt Monro is on this part two of the Free Connection. I did part one some time ago (see Free volume one here). I probably should have waited for a special freedom oriented day to arrive to post this, but I have been feeling freer since January anyway and it was there just waiting. I like that this volume of the compilation is bookended by two long very cool free songs and a bunch of other great songs inbetween. You can't get more apart than Funkadelic and Lynyrd Skynyrd and yet it totally works. I have another eight hours of free songs and eventually I will post another one. They just aren't finalized yet. Similar cover. Isn't it nice.

On this day we hope we are as Free as the constitution of the USA. We'll see how the election goes today and hopefully we do not see too much more of the dangerous rhetoric on both sides for the next few elections. I had already done a Freedom WTC and, sorry I used two of the same songs in each.  (Soup Dragons and the Who) I used the Soup Dragons, because I was listening to the Untouchables and wanted a compilation using their song and the Soup Dragons and Special AKA. The Who was by accident. Most of these songs in this connection have nothing to do with being free to vote and just use Free in the title. Some of my favorite Free songs. Go vote if you are American.

What's The Connection? Freedom

This day will always be burned in our collective memories. The USA was attacked for it's freedom. We came together for a short while, remembering our freedoms and still memorialize the victims of this horrendous day. To me it represents all of the people who have died defending our freedoms guaranteed us by the constitution, but given to us by God. We all need to remember that as we come closer to voting. And fight, by voting for our rights before we lose them altogether. This connection is a pick of songs that all have free or freedom in the title. Play it on days that you want to remember that the USA, with all of its faults, is still the best country in the world. Where we have fought for freedom here and around the world.
