Yesterday I primed you for this pick, go back a day and get all the links for the earlier volumes. I always rail against Cinco De Mayo being a non-Mexican, Mexican holiday. It does exist, but it's not as big as it is in the United States. I am not going off today, today I will just join in and have a Modello Negra and some Pozole (one of my favorite soups). I can never make it quite right. My neighbor (Eva) from years back used to make the best Pozole ever! She tried to teach me. She lived across the street from us. Her kids played with mine and I just always got invited when she cooked Mexican food. Great family! Anyway more Dude Rock with a latin base.

Well, to get ready for tomorrow, this is volume 3 of my latin dude pick Ése. It may have veered a little, but tomorrow I veer back. The idea is latin or chicano rock, songs a dude would like. You tell me do you think some dude (Chicano or not) would dig these songs? I think so. BTW, notice that I use the tilde over the "e" in some places and not the others, it's because it is a pain to alphabetize. No other reason. So, ese, enjoy the tracks.

The previous Ése pick (volume one of Ese is here) tells the story of how it came to be. Basically since this is National Taco day I figured I would finally post this second volume. It's got two of the same bands from volume one, but the rest are different. Still many more to add, I'm sure. Mostly this is Chicano based rock and roll although stuff like Phil Manzanera is much more Cuban based. Let's call it Latin based rock. A bunch of  Doug Sahm who was a big supporter and champion of this genre. A couple of California based bands who really rock including Dr. Loco and Mestizo Beat (one of the bands on volume one, too). Dude, I think you will like this continuation.

I have been listening to quite a bit of the band War and was thinking of other songs that fit with them and came up with this "Mixtape" pick. You could put this into a Cinco De Mayo party or mix it with any of my Exitos compilations. But I decided it should just be in the mixtape category. I sort of viewed it like Wah? or WTF?! or Hit The Spot or even Feel Like It. It has two War related tracks that fit in, but also some lesser known bands mixed in with the Santana, Mandrill, Tower Of Power and Malo. One of the ones that I really think fits in is Southern California's Mestizo Beat. But try finding their recordings. Impossible. But they are cool and some label should put their stuff out. I lived in Canoga for awhile so that hits me close. By the way, for those of you who don't know the title (Ése) is sort of slang for "Dude" so that struck me as a great title for this.
