Classical Gas (repost)

I posted this originally in 2022, but the link was bad and someone emailed and asked for a reup. So here it is: These are all songs with some sort of link to classical music. Elements of classical music, based on a classical song etc. Not just featuring violins or an orchestra on this pick. For instance the Toy Dolls play a classical song, but they do not sound like a classical orchestra (at all). There are plenty more that could be considered that I did not include like songs that are based on a classical melody, but were completely changed. I also added some songs that just mentioned classical artists: Like Play Bach, Rock Me Amadeus, etc. I had several more that I could have added, but I limited it to what fits on a CD. So you miss Gazebo's I Like Chopin. Anyway there are tons more. Somewhere on  Butterboy's blog he has a multi-disc compilation with lots more. I made this one before I ever saw his and I tried not to look at his version as I was writing this, so it would be just what I remember when I put this together. After I heard Bohemian Rhapsody for the first time, I thought it was brilliant and predicted that a lot more bands would try to do songs like that. I was wrong. some had done it before and some after, but no rush to emulate that.

Here's the other side of the cassette I started posting yesterday. Read the story of the pick in the other post. Here I will say that the cover was not originally designed by me. She designed the cassette cover. I scanned the words and used them over the notes that I found in some clipart. It was all hand drawn originally, but it didn't fit the new format. So I took what I could use and recreated the rest to make it fit. Not sure why, but I had the hardest time tracking down some of the songs on this side. I didn't have access to the original classical records she used, so I had to figure it out from the notes on the cassette, which did have some detail. And then began the tracking. Let me know what you think about these versions and tell me if you think you know some better versions I can listen to.

Go For Baroque 1

This was a cassette that an ex-college girlfriend made for me. This is side 1 of the cassette. She played violin and I knew next to nothing about classical music. She went home for the summer and we sent each other cassette compilations. She had some good ones. It took me awhile to recreate this, because I wanted to make sure I got the same sources she did for each track on her pick. I understand that the conductor and the symphony makes a real difference. I can't say if she chose these exact recordings because they happened to be in her parents' record collection or because they were her favorite versions of all time. I have no idea and it would take me years of figuring out which versions I like best. I am not that versed in classical music. Although way more than I was in the 80's. Her influence. I started making sure that at least one choice of new music per month was a classical record, So I ended up with quite a bit of that genre. Still am not the connoisseur although I work at it occasionally. Then, I sucked at being a boyfriend (too self obsessed) Probably still do, but I am more aware of it now. Either way, she did make some great compilations before she figured that out.
