RIYL Y&T (Recommended If You Like Yesterday and Today) repost

Repost of this pick: Bay Area band (Oakland, Caifornia) Y&T also known as Yesterday and Today hasn't done much lately, but were and are influential in the area of heavy metal. At least one member of Metallica started playing because of this band. Anyway, as a California boy, I liked the band and I love making RIYL compilations every now and again. So here are my recommendations if you like Y&T. Or if you like one of these songs and don't listen to Y&T, perhaps you should. And try to find the albums of all these artists, they are all good. BTW this song by them isn't even the best or most popular, but it does rock.

Bliksem 1 (Repost)

Repost of this playlist pick I called Bliksem. That is Dutch for Lightning. Not because it has anything to do with weather at all. But I started with Blitzkreig Bop and Ballroom Blitz, which all kinda mean lightning in German. The idea was to get songs that matched in intensity, if not speed of those songs. I guess it could be RIYL those songs. You could possibly use this as a playlist to run, or ski, or just to drive to. In fact, a couple of these songs are in my On The Road Again series (all songs to take on the road). I did post them one day three years ago. So enjoy this pick, I left off a couple that I might use in volume two including one of my favorites: Betty Blowtorch. One day I might make volume 2 (I did make it already). So leave any suggestions, but for volume 3, but only until after you listen to the pick. It's kind of like the Beat This pick. It just sounds good together.

Recommended If You Like (RIYL) Get Closer (repost)

I do like these picks. Recommended If You Like or RIYL. It is a fun sort of compilation, but easy for you to skip. If you don't like the main song or the main band, you probably won't like the rest of the songs. It is designed to give you songs that sound similar in feel to the main comparison song/band, whatever. In this case it is Seals & Crofts Get Closer. When I first heard Seals & Crofts I thought it was pleasant enough music, but at the time I was listening to the Isley Brothers and, I'm sorry, they are better. I grew to like Seals & Crofts and this song got me to listen to more stuff like it. Not the same kind of stuff like our last RIYL a few days ago. I hope you like this one. Leave a comment about any choices I might have missed or a RIYL that you would like to hear.

Beat This (RIYL Hoodoo Gurus Leilani) Repost

Repost: This is kind of a RIYL (Recommended If You Like) playlist. I put Hoodoo Gurus in the title, but really it may not have started with them. But it kind of doesn't matter with RIYL's because pick any song that you like and the rest should be a little matchie-matchie. It has to do with the drum sound. To me they all have a similar feel. I know they don't actually, but they all could easily follow another. The Adam and the Ants track was from a flexi disc, but the rest should be on one album or another. Although the Passengers does seem difficult to find outside of Australia. Anyway enjoy this pick and by all means make some suggestions for a future volume. Not sure why, but I have always liked the cover. Simple.

Beat This

RIYL Uptown Funk (repost)

This repost is from the first year I was posting on this site. I like this RIYL pick. I still play it a lot. It just sounds good. Here's what I originally said about it: You know how you are listening to a song and it it really feels like you've heard the song before? I was listening to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' hit Uptown Funk and it kept bothering me. Not so much like Blurred Lines and Got To Give It Up sounded like they would make a good mash up, but I knew I had that vibe and sound in my head. So I started searching and remembering. This is the playlist pick that I came up with. Pretty much this is my Recommended If You Like Uptown Funk. Let me know what you would recommend in the comments below.

Uptown Funk

01 Stevie Wonder - Superstition
02 The Bar-Kays - Too Hot To Stop (Pt. 1)
03 Zapp - More Bounce To The Ounce (Pt. 1)
04 Brass Construction - Get Up To Get Down
05 Earth, Wind & Fire - GetaWay
06 James Brown - Living In America
07 One Way - Let's Talk
08 Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk
09 Michael Jackson - Jam
10 Skyy - Call Me
11 Cameo - Shake Your Pants (Original 12' Club Mix) 12 The Time - Cool
13 Prince - Partyup
14 Gap Band - Party Train
15 Sun - We're So Hot (Instrumental)

Take It Easy Too

It's sort of the part two of the Take It Easy pick, but that is also part of another pick (see link at previous link) which is also related to Life Is Good pick. I did number this continuing from part one which is deceptively called Again. So it's confusing. Mostly songs about taking it easy, slowing down, making things simple, although the music is not as breezy as all that. I have another I will post later on, but I was ready to get this one up.

Take It Easy Too

21 Larry Williams - Slow Down
22 The Fugees - Take It Easy
23 Christina Aguilera - Slow Down Baby

27 Depeche Mode - Easy Tiger
28 The Jam - Slow Down
29 Air - You Make It Easy
30 Nancy Sinatra - I Used To Think It Was Easy
31 Who - I'm Free

38 Selena Gomez - Slow Down
39 Commodores - Easy
40 Klaus Nomi - Simple Man
41 Boston - It's Easy
42 Eagles - Peaceful Easy Feeling
43 Triumph - Easy Life

Take It Easy Again

A little while back I made the pick that I called Slow Down To Look which was started with the Eagles Take It Easy. I had so many that I parlayed into a few more picks. This is one of them. It has the Lemonheads covering that Eagles song and a bunch more easy kind of of songs. And also songs that are about Good Times and especially about drinking for free, because that implies a free and easy time as well. Fridays, drinks and lots of easing. Similar Flatbed Ford on the cover, so you know they are related. Jazz, reggae, electronic dance, country to rock. It's all about taking it easy.

Take It Easy Again

01 Tom Scott - Breezin' Easy
02 Skyy - Easy
03 Three Dog Night - Easy to Be Hard
04 Nancy Sinatra - Nice 'N' Easy
05 The Velvet Underground - We're Gonna Have A Real Good Time Together
06 The Easybeats - Friday On My Mind
07 Cars - Good Times Roll
08 Earth, Wind & Fire - Good Time
09 Bryan Ferry - Easy Living
10 Dean Martin - For The Good Times
11 Plush - Free And Easy
12 Linda Ronstadt - It's So Easy
13 Rascal Flatts - Easy
14 Cabaret Voltaire - Easy Life
15 Bob Marley - Easy Skanking
16 Stranglers - Let Me Down Easy
17 Philip Bailey with Phil Collins - Easy Lover
18 Ringo Starr - Free Drinks
19 The Lemonheads - Take It Easy
20 The Upsetters - Cool And Easy

Slow Down To Look

This was fun to make, but perhaps not as easy to explain. I had a couple of  songs to start out with. The Eagles, Rupert Holmes, Jimmy Buffet, Toby Keith were there. I didn't want to just have a music of getting drunk songs, but more of an I'm buzzed and happy, not doing anything especially important feeling. So John Cruz came about, Zac Brown, Bob Marley. Notice that the version I have from John Cruz is his original version, not the live one with Jack Johnson and Jackson Brown (I just like it better). I almost added Joe Walsh, but decided it would make a better pick with him tomorrow. A couple of the songs I almost didn't add, but did anyway. And one I almost forgot, but am really glad I added (Queen). Too perfect for this. The title is from the Eagles and the cover I put together has Winslow in the background, although the Truck is from a different state. I always feel like Penn and Teller in Fool Us when I write these things. Enough information, but sort of in code.

Slow Down To Look

01 Israel Iz Kamakawiwo'ole - What A Wonderful World
02 John Cruz - Island Style
03 Jason Mraz - Have It All
04 Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song
05 Zac Brown Band - Toes
06 Queen - Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon
07 George Strait - Here For A Good Time
08 Ray Charles - Let's Go Get Stoned
09 Jack Johnson - Better Together
10 Bob Marley & The Wailers - Three Little Birds
11 Rupert Holmes - Escape (The Piña Colada Song)
12 Weezer - Island in the Sun
13 Eagles - Take It Easy
14 Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop The Feeling!
15 Kenny Chesney - No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems
16 The Toyes - Smoke Two Joints
17 Alan Jackson with Jimmy Buffett - It's Five O'Clock Somewhere
18 Jimmy Buffett - Margaritaville
19 Joe Nichols - Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off
20 Toby Keith - Red Solo Cup
21 John Denver - Rocky Mountain High
22 Chuck Mangione - Feels So Good

SoS

This is a pick of non related songs, except by the closeness of the Camelot Key to Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits. I didn't do a RIYL (Recommended If You Like) because the songs don't sound like that song, but they are mixable with that song. Sort of. I've listened to it several times and there are some surprising segues, but not too jarring. It's pretty listenable in that order, even though the BPM's vary, they tend to go up in energy and then drop back down with a key change. I tried to make it as smooth as possible, without staying completely true to the premise. Just fun. A few of the bands, I stayed away from their biggest hits, but for some it just worked out. Hopefully, there are a couple of tracks that will surprise you (in a good way). I like that the morse code is NOT Sultans of Swing. Although that would have been funny for the few people that know morse code.

SoS

01 King Harvest - Dancing in the Moonlight
02 Ambrosia - Biggest Part of Me
03 Santana - Flor D'Luna (Moonflower)
04 Association - Windy
05 Steely Dan - Do It Again
06 The Zombies - She's Not There

08 Badfinger - Day After Day
09 Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
10 Kissing The Pink - Big Man Restless
11 Gary Myrick And The Figures - She Talks In Stereo
12 Don Armando's Second Avenue Rhumba Band - I'm an Indian, Too
13 Chicago - Street Player
14 Earth Wind & Fire - Boogie Wonderland
15 Creedence Clearwater Revival - Run Through The Jungle
16 Stranglers - All Day And All Of The Night
17 Siouxsie & The Banshees - The Passenger
18 Boys Don't Cry - I Wanna Be A Cowboy
19 Cars - Tonight She Comes
20 Steve Miller Band - Abracadabra

Bliksem 2 (Lightning)

Here it is part two of this pick I call Bliksem. See the first Bliksem to know why, but it's Dutch for lightning. I'm pretty sure there is one Dutch band on here, but that's not why I called it that. It has to do with the intensity of the songs. Listen and you will get it. I did put one band on here twice. And that's because I like the band and both songs are cool and match the criteria in my head. So look for the bonus track at 42. At least one track was suggested by comment on the last volume, so congrats.

Bliksem 2 (Lightning)

41 Queens Of The Stone Age - You Think I Ain't Worth A Dollar, But I Feel Like A Millionaire
42 Betty Blowtorch - Shut Up & Fuck

RIYL Recommended If You Like Sad Sweet Dreamer

Another RIYL. This time if you like Sweet Sensation's Sad Sweet Dreamer these are my recommended picks. This is one of those bands that you wish they had something more. They kind of had another hit in Purely Coincidence, but it didn't sound like this hit. In fact it kind of sounded like the Sylvers. Just not the best of the Sylvers. But here on this track, they hit is just right. The 21 other tracks on this compilation all spike out from the one song. I'm not sure when I will post another one of these, but if you want to see more, leave a seed song in the comments and I may work on it if it excites me enough. BTW, the font I used in the covers is a cool one called Tom's New Roman. I wish he had more like it.

RIYL Sister Golden Hair

This pick is from one of my favorite kind of comps. Recommended If You Like or RIYL. It is a fun sort of compilation, but easy for you to skip. If you don't like the main song or the main band, you probably won't like the rest of the songs. It is designed to give you songs that sound similar in feel to the main comparison song/band, whatever. In this case it is America Sister Golden Hair. It reminds me of several other songs, Probably all of that band's out put for sure, But the rule on this one is that I cannot repeat a band. Lots of songs on here that I like and that sound like the base song in one way or another. I have a few of these that spun off this one, so sorry about that. Either you've hit a bonanza over the next couple of days or you are going to come back in a few days.

Sixties Summer Love (Volume 3)

I recently got the Sixties Summer Love collection thanks to Butterboy. It's a two disc collection of some amazing love songs from the sixties, But I kept noticing that some of my favorites were not in there. So I decided to make a third disc full of songs in a playlist. This is the culmination of that decision. No rhyme or reason, just love songs from the sixties that weren't necessarily hits, but ones I liked and were not already on discs 1 & 2. On that premise, I also didn't change their cover, I just added a disc. I started the numbering after their first 50 songs.

What Plants Crave Connection (RIYL Brawndo - Idiocracy)

This Connection was inspired by me watching the movie Idiocracy too many times. From President Camacho to "Not Sure" (Joe) and Frito and the rest, this movie was always very funny to me and now seems to be coming true. Especially with so many people exhibiting TDS I had to make this playlist of  dumb, stupid, idiotic, moronic songs: because it has electrolytes. Like Brawndo. I had as much fun making this playlist as watching the movie. I've probably watched this movie more times than any other movie except four. If you like the movie, you might like these songs. But it's also a What's The Connection? Click on the album cover and comment below about other idiotic songs you like.

What Plants Crave

01 Sparks - Your Call's Very Important to Us.  Please Hold.

RIYL Y&T (Recommended If You Like Yesterday and Today)

Bay Area band (Oakland, Caifornia) Y&T also known as Yesterday and Today hasn't done much lately, but were and are influential in the area of heavy metal.
