In-Frelling-Fix 3

I  have made a couple of these and a few sideways trips (see In-Frelling-Fix and Commingled) and I liked the last volume of this pick, but I wasn't happy that I kind of went down a rabbit hole with it. It was a good rabbit hole, but not one I intended to go on. It just works out that way sometimes. This one is more true to the original idea (in my mind). Let me know how it ranks with the other volumes. Not too many songs, as they tend to go longer. Rock that isn't quite Jazz and Jazz that isn't quite Rock. Borderline Prog, but not. In-Frelling-Fix 2

When I made the first In-Frelling-Fix, I wasn’t trying to define a genre so much as name a feeling. This Pick lives inside categories without sitting comfortably in any of them - jazz that isn’t really jazz, rock that doesn’t behave like rock, and fusion that never quite resolves. I sequenced it for tension and motion rather than groove or payoff, letting the tracks lean forward and rub against each other instead of settling in. The title doesn’t change the music, but it still fits — and if you want a slightly different view of this idea, try Commingled.

The last one of this series pick. Volume one and two were the last few days. Mostly songs that are from bands that are not known for prog rock, but did a song (or some a few) that could be considered prog. It's Not Prog, but it's really Prog. Mostly rock bands today (even Funkadelic which most people consider a Funk band, but they could really rock). A couple of newer tunes and the rest going back at least a few years. What am I talking about all of these were a few years back, I'm just thinking of when I first heard them. They were new then, but I'm old and these songs are all older now. Some way older.

These are Prog songs from non-Prog bands. And I suppose it's all some genre twisting by me to make these prog songs, but they are prog. Just listen to them. They are long. They are maybe AOR or Pomp Rock, but not really. Go back a few days to see the Pomp Rock picks. There are a few of them. And this Pick will have a few volumes, too. Remember, I divide these up by CD length. So over the course of the next few days there will be over twenty songs. Some you will automatically know, but listen to them today from a Prog rock standpoint. Tell me you get it.

In-Frelling-Fix

I know how I came up with the title, so let me address that first. An "In Fix" is To insert (a morphological element) into the body of a word. Usually a swear word. Taking the word Unbelievable and adding the f-word (with an "ing") between "un" and "believable". I was looking at that and wanted to have a title with a swear word, but not a real one. So "Frell" was the swear word that the characters in Farscape used when they wanted to swear. And I had this CD I was making with jazz, but not jazz. Rock, but not rock. And none of it was quite what I would characterize as prog rock (although I'm sure some would.) So I used the in fix title for this playlist pick. Interesting, but doesn't make a difference to the music on here. Although the last track is also an In Fix. Ta da!
