I have to state up front, that I love Lydia Lunch. She's a firecracker. I've met her a few times, seen her play live both as a singer and as a spoken word poet. I don't know what it is, but it seems like there is a connection everytime we've been together. She would not know my name from adam, but every single time we've ended up flirting, playing grab ass or something. That's not because I am somebody, but she's just flirty and I am okay with it. I encourage it with her. She's short compared to me and she's trouble all the way through! And I mean that in a good way. That being said, she will hate my pick here. It's got tracks she doesn't like. But sorry, I do. These are my favorites out of the non-spoken word recordings I have. Every time I find something from her, I have to get it. Yes, I am a fan.

Thanks! I've heard SOME of Lydia Lunch's work from over the years, going all the way back to her days in Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. But there's a lot of it that I don't know at all, so I'm looking forward to this sampler. I was recently re-watching the episode of Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown" which is about New York's Lower East Side. It's a very touching episode, partly because Bourdain died so soon after, and also because Bourdain himself gets kind of nostalgic when interviewing some of the musicians and artists he remembers from back in the day. But when he tries being nostalgic with Lydia Lunch, she pretty much shuts him down. She says (essentially) that what she cares about is always the present moment, never the past as such, and she's doing just fine in the here and now!
ReplyDeleteThat seems consistent with my interactions with her.
