Sorry, I have to take a break

I am unable to get more of these posted right now, as soon as I get a chance I will continue.

What's The Connection? Home

My pop's story from yesterday is why this came about. It's actually what I gave him way back when. I was so sure the Billy Joel was right, but it wasn't. And you know the reason there is no Dan Reed Network today. I work all over the world, but I also work from home. Lately I have been busy with some cool projects. Maybe one day I will share them here. In the meantime my dogs need to be fed, my mother-in-law needs some help and I am wasting my time writing this blurb for this connection which tells you nothing. Hanging out and waiting for my wife to get here. I think I might just make friends with an AI (or call a friend.)

What's The Connection? Build

People ask me about songs all the time, which is flattering until you realize most people do not know the title, the artist, or even the lyrics. Before you could just Shazam everything, my dad once asked me to find a song he really liked. All he knew was that it went, "home, home, you are my house." I worked hard, searched high and low, and found plenty of songs that looked possible, but none of them were right. Years later, it turned out he meant Dan Reed Network doing Ritual, which sounds absolutely nothing like that. The Connection here is Build, not Home, but for a second it probably sounded like I was building up to something. Maybe tomorrow.

Clash Of The Titans 8 (repost)

This is the last of this series, probably. This pick is a little different than the others, because in addition to all of the other vague descriptions of electroclash, all of this pick is also covers. And one mashup. Some great songs are covered here. You probably will figure out the originals of each (if not ask in the comments). You know I love covers of songs, especially if they are done in a little different style. Well here you go. The last of the Clash Of The Titans series and also all covers. Lots of different mixes, nearly the same cover.

Clash Of The Titans 7 (repost)

After the repost of this pick there is only one more to go, So if you love these electroclash comps, enjoy the last ones. If you hate them, good luck it's nearing the end. This really is a clash, even though the music all fits together, it's not really new wave, it's not really electro, it's not really disco, etc. It's a clash of all those things and house. But none of those things either. I mean could I be more vague? The pick makes sense when you listen to it.

Clash Of The Titans 6 (repost)

A continuation of the repost of indescribable pick of Electroclash, new new wave or nouveau disco, tech pop or just dance music. Who the hell knows? It just fits together for me. This volume of the playlist has more remixes. It has a couple of more well known tracks and a couple I doubt you've heard before. Enough with the introductions, because we all know there isn't anything that will make it understandable except to listen to it.

Clash Of The Titans 5 (repost)

This repost of volume five of the electroclash pick has one of my favorite tracks from a band (producer?) I have no idea about. I just know I like the track. Ctrl Z vs Screwface. Especially when it is Zedd. Control Zedd. So obviously not from the US. But what a way to start off a volume than with that intro. A bunch of remixes and cool unknowns. I just like it. No explanations or reasons. All these years and I still have no idea. But at least it's now updated.

Clash Of The Titans 4 (repost)

More electroclash in this series pick repost. Although I would suggest that only some of this is really electroclash and the rest is a some other kind of flavor edm. A couple of tracks that are covers, at least one that feels like a cover but is an original. A few remixes and one of my own edits. All danceable and kinda go well together. Over the last couple of volumes, you've probably noticed some of the same names come up. No accident.

Clash Of The Titans 3 (repost)

Continuing the Clash Of The Titans playlist series, this repost pick of electroclash is just getting interesting. A couple of older songs mixed with newer songs that sure seem danceable. Less remixes this outing. I like the mix of Cabaret Voltaire and Talking Heads mixed with Juan Maclean and Hot Chip. I couldn't tell you anything about Fujiya & Miyagi, but I love the sound. Fischerspooner and LCD Soundsystem had hits later but here they were just blips.

Clash Of The Titans 2 (repost)

Repost of part 2 of this pick I call electroclash, but it really isn't all that. Mostly good danceable new new wave and even some edgier house. Songs from bands no one except for a select few really knows or remembers, but you will dance to it. Is this EDM? Gasp! Who cares? It mixes well, people dance to it and it just sounds good. Stop judging so much. This pick is mine and I like it. Just play it and dance. Love on the edits and remixes.

Clash Of The Titans 1 (Repost)

I'm reposting this series of picks again since I was working on the electroclash one the other day.

I originally put together this series of playlists around the time of the emergence of electroclash and although it isn't all that, it sounds enough like it it to start this series. I think I was watching the Clash Of The Titans movie or seeing a computer game or something like that and so this was born. It was more just danceable stuff that mixed real well. I hope you like it. I made a few of these and the theme doesn't hold up really at all. But it didn't matter, because I liked this pick and played it a lot. Lots of remixes.

Electrowave (Repost)

Repost with new links just so you can see the progression. Not the same as the Clash Of TheTitans series. First this is only one comp. But as I was making the other playlists, I realized there was some stuff that was much like new wave and little like electro and it was pretty good. What's The Connection? Balls

Well, that World Cup could have gone better for an American with Dutch heritage. The U.S. is out, the Netherlands is out, and I am left doing the usual family math where disappointment somehow has two flags on it. At least my Belgian cousins are still happy, because their team is still playing with their balls. That is probably more than I needed to say, but here we are. I am not comparing this to boobs. Different subject entirely. This Connection just happens to be the one that still has something bouncing.

Electroclash

I never understood why electroclash disappeared while so many of the ideas stuck around. The fashion mostly went away, but the attitude never really did. These tracks are full of icy synths, deadpan vocals, and enough swagger to convince you they don't care whether you like them or not. Apparently I do. If you're looking around the House for something a little stranger than the usual four on the floor, this Pick should do nicely. Twenty years later, it still sounds like the future showed up with a smirk.

What's The Connection? Vacation (repost)

Repost  of this one from 2022: People tend to take vacations in the summer, although for many it's been staycations or having a holiday at home. But this was made some time ago, before the really bad inflation and huge gas prices. All the songs have vacation in the title. Yes, I know that some people say they go on holiday (that's another WTC?). This one is strictly a vacation connection. I knew I had to have the Go-Go's in here, the rest went around that. I came up with a few good ones. Again let me know if your favorite vacation song isn't in here. And enjoy whatever vacation you are having this year. I hope it's sweet. And yes, that's me on the Jetski.

What's The Connection? Sunshine (repost)

Another repost with new links and new blurb: Every long weekend seems to reach the same point. The fireworks are over, the coolers are a little lighter, somebody forgot to put the lawn chairs away, and life starts easing back toward normal. Then the sun comes up, the coffee tastes just as good, and somehow summer keeps right on going. Maybe that's the best part about this season. Even after the celebrations are over, there's still another sunny day waiting. It's hot out so do something that cools you off. This Connection follows sunshine in just about every mood imaginable. Sometimes it warms things up, sometimes it disappears, and sometimes it shows up exactly when it is needed most. Whether you're spending the day outside or hiding from the heat, I hope this one brightens it just a little.

What's The Connection? Summer (repost)

This is a repost with new links from four years ago with a whole new blurb: Summer always seems a little shorter than I remember. Maybe that's because we try to pack so much into it before the days start getting shorter again. Beach trips, backyard cookouts, vacations, long evenings that somehow disappear too quickly, and all the songs that end up becoming part of those memories. It doesn't really matter what year they came from. Every summer eventually finds its own soundtrack. This Connection stays with one season from beginning to end, wandering through breezy afternoons, hot city streets, romance, nostalgia, and just enough sunshine to make you forget how hot it actually is. Whether you're heading for the beach, the lake, the backyard, or just the air conditioning, these songs should fit somewhere along the way. I hope your summer lasts a little longer than it usually seems to.

America 250

America celebrates Independence Day every year, but turning 250 only happens once. Watching this year's World Cup has made the occasion feel even more special. Along with the matches, it has been fun seeing visitors from around the world discovering everyday American life for the first time. Sometimes it takes someone seeing your home with fresh eyes to remind you how many little things you have quietly taken for granted all along. That seems like a pretty good reason to celebrate. This Connection follows a few of the ideas that have shaped the country along the way: liberty, freedom, home, music, and a Saturday night or two. It even begins with the birthday song I have sung to friends and family for years whenever their special day comes around. After all, 250 candles deserve something a little different. I have a feeling some of those visitors are going home with a different picture of America than the one they arrived with. This year's 4th of July seemed like the right time to celebrate that.

Americanos

One of my favorite parts of this year's World Cup has been watching visitors from around the world experience everyday America. Not the landmarks or the postcards, but the things most of us stopped noticing years ago. Sometimes it's a restaurant, sometimes it's the size of a grocery store, sometimes it's unlimited drink refills or discovering ranch dressing for the first time, and sometimes it's a place that somehow turned a gas station into a destination all by itself. Seeing those reactions has been a nice reminder that culture isn't just found in museums. A lot of it happens in the ordinary places we pass every day. This pick is really about perspective. Tomorrow's 4th of July seems like the perfect time to celebrate that. I have a feeling some of those visitors are going home with a different picture of America than the one they arrived with.

Happy Anniversary! (repost)

Repost: This connection or pick of anniversary songs is because today is my anniversary. Been married quite a while (since '07 if you want to know). I actually celebrate it twice a year six months apart because we had a church wedding six months after our actual wedding. Makes it kind of fun. Now these songs, however, are not all celebratory, but they do all have Anniversary in the title. Just don't play them for you other half and expect it to be all nice-nice. Some are. Some are not. I keep hoping there will be a better, newer anniversary song to celebrate, than the Little River Band, which isn't really about their anniversary, but celebrating that his significant other is happy with someone else. But it sounds happy! Oh well! Duran Duran is more in line with the sentiment, but it's not their best song.

Happy Anniversary!

01 Mission UK - Prelude Anniversary
02 Al Stewart - Anniversary
03 Tony! Toni! Tone! - Anniversary

Pulsing Aura

Two wormholes opening on consecutive days seems a little excessive. Then again, I watched enough wormhole science fiction to believe they probably happen more often than we notice. I even named one of my boxers Ka D'Argo and a foster Aeryn Sun, so I guess I committed to that idea years ago. This pick turns the dial up from yesterday. Fire, rescue, battles, martyrs, robbers, rats, and a Mississippi Queen all come charging through, somehow staying in step despite coming from completely different musical worlds. At 140 BPM, I probably didn't have much choice.

Pulsing Aura

01 Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Fire
