There are so many disco songs done by artists that were not considered disco artists that I could do many of these connections. These are mostly rock bands doing their one obligatory disco song to test the waters. Most never did a second. But we got some great disco tunes because of it. Volume 1 of the Slipped My Disco series was good, but missed by not having these tracks. In the ongoing Slipped My Disco series, this Pick is interesting in that some of these bands ended up being known for their disco song, than the rest of their work. Plus a couple of jazz musicians who had a couple of disco hits. Slipped My Disco 1 Connection

This will be a fun start to a several volume set of playlists with the connection of disco. But not just regular disco. These are all bands/artists that were not known as disco bands, but they did a disco song or disco album. I will post the other sets on future Saturday Nites. Some of the artists in the sets may have had their biggest hit with the disco song and for some it was their worst. You judge, not me. I like them all, but then again, I like disco. The album cover (click on it) is a snapshot of a local Bay Area TV station's regular disco dance party, so it's not from the seventies or eighties.  I started this pick years ago. Always fascinated by the concept of artists doing songs that are not their genre. You'll find all sorts of picks on this site with that premise. What's funny to me is when a band does that and becomes so well known for that one off-genre track that they change completely. Check out some of the other Slipped My Disco compilations to see some of those. This volume has more of the ones that were just tries (some hits, some misses). I mean Steve Miller was never going to known for this track. A few of the others are better swings. I always crack up listening to the Sweet. They tried so many different genres and some of their early glam almost sounds like disco, so I can see why they tried. But I'd rather listen to Love Is Like Oxygen anytime. That being said Ballroom Blitz is not far away from disco. Like all the others, posted on a Saturday nite.

My goodness, we're already at volume four of this series of disco picks. That's because there are so many disco songs by non-disco artists. Although at least one of these never had a bigger hit than their disco hit. Keep commenting with your favorite disco hits, I'm sure I will be making more of these. What's The Connection? Disco 1

I have several volumes of disco songs on this blog, but this is not the same. In fact the genre didn't matter. The songs didn't need to be disco songs (although several of them are). All they needed was to have the word Disco in the title. It couldn't be just a "disco remix" to make it on this connection. It had to genuinely have disco be part of the title. It could be used as a noun like the place called the Disco or an adjective like a ball or a person who was Disco. It could be even used as a verb like you were going to Disco all night or for five minutes. I had another three letter playlist that I called mag that started this one. It was sixteen days ago. It had the Michael Jackson and the Isley brothers on it which made me thnk of doing this. I used a different shorter version of the Isley Brothers on this one.

Fakin' Jamaican 2

The more you look at popular and rock music, the more you see influences of other musical genres. This is especially true of Jamaican music, specifically, Reggae, Ska, Dub, etc. Putting this pick together (all of the volumes) was fun. And watching the expression on my friend's face as he realized that he actually does like Jamaican music was even better. He is a big Jeff Back fan and when he realized that Beck incorporated reggae on one of his favorite albums, blew him away. Oops! Sorry. You can find so many artists who have been influenced by the little island of Jamaica, that it's not even funny. It's that way with a lot of genres. The Slipped My Disco series did that with disco. So many bands were influenced by that genre, too. You can really find it with every trend of music. Some last longer than others, or mutate into something new, but it's all good.

The Tubes Pick

I was very lucky to see the Tubes live several times. As an MC I even got to introduce them at two of their final last live concerts. They never quite got that to stick until most of them died. I know they have many greatest hits albums and all of them are quite good. But for this pick I chose my favorites. Some are "hits" and some are not even close, but I like them. Take for instance Malaguena Salerosa, I just love that song in general and have even made a pick of versions of that song. But was it a hit? No. But most of their songs weren't close to being hits, no matter how great they were. This includes songs from many of their albums but not all and you should get them all. They are all good. The first time I heard some of these songs, I was blown away. Been a fan ever since. I had fun with the cover.

I probably should have posted this connection in the summertime, but the living is easy. Seriously it's somehwat warm and even if it wasn't who wouldn't want to think of a nice slip and slide for fun? It didn't start with the Slip & Slide or even Paul Simon. Actually it was the Commodores. One of the first songs I knew from the group. And not one of the songs is about the kind of slipping we did as kids. I'll let you figure it out. Either way a fun one to listen to, even though it goes all over the place.

This is the final piece of the Patrick Adams pick. I've been relistening to this, over the last few days and it's just good. And several of these disco tracks are probably stuff you had no idea were even related to Adams. Unless maybe you were a DJ, then maybe. A couple of repeat bands in here from previous volumes, even one track that supposedly is higher rated than previous pick. But I know what I like. Last volume I linked to another record label and here is another reason why I picked that label: Herbie Mann covering Celi Bee in a jazzy dance-y way.
