Reggae Dub Pick 3

It's been a while since I did Dub Pick 1 and Dub Pick 2. But finally I post part three. I do love Dub. Most of this pick is good all time classic dub. One track will stand out though. And that is Soundgarden covering the Ohio Players dub style. Sort of. Give it a chance. It's not that bad. The rest will fit in just fine with the first two picks or any other dub you might already have. Eventually I will finish part four. I have so much to choose from it's hard to narrow it down. I would be interested to hear what you think of these picks (I did reup parts one and two) and what you would add to part four. I get that Dub is not everyone's cup of tea, but I gravitate to it. Read the story in the first part. Also try Slow Poof. It isn't dub but somehow its is related in feeling.

What's The Connection? Secret Agent

This is a top secret Connection. No agent, foreign or domestic can know what this compilation is about. Some doubles in songs, just like double agents. Some covers. Some originals. Most are domestic, but there are some foreign here. But this message may explode in 15 seconds. [countdown begins. smoke fills room] That is all....

Actually my favorite part of all this is the cover. Part Bond, part Agent Orange, part IRS Records and all WTC!

What's The Connection? Walking 2

I've had this one for awhile. I made part one of the Walking Connection some time back and had this ready to go, but just didn't finish it quite up. So now it's time. This has a bunch of great songs with walk in the title that I couldn't fit on volume one. Monty Python is always good for laugh, but some of the others are classics. Like Lou Reed The Cure, Jesus and Mary Chain, Pink Floyd and AC-DC all in one compilation. Gotta walk with this one. And be sure to do it Hard.

TK Records Family

This pick is about the record company TK records. Named after a sound engineer, Terry Kane, it started in Florida. I have a love hate relationship with the state. First state I was ever refused service (at a waffle place) because I had a mohawk. Went back several times because I also had some of the best times there. TK Records is one of the first disco record companies and yet Florida also had trouble in Broward and Miami-Dade with censorship of Two Live Crew. Which, now that I think of it, is the bluest part of the state. It is a highly tolerant place and yet the very strict on some things. The main stream media calls it the "Don't Say Gay" state and yet you cannot be more gay than the Keys, in fact, all of the state is highly tolerant of LGB, but really not so much the T. Nothing to do with this compilation, just my observation rant on the side. I think Red is probably more tolerant than we think, but just has limits. Some of the earliest disco came out on TK. KC, the McCrae's. Some of my favorites, like T-Connection, Bobby Caldwell, Celi Bee all were on TK. Even Weird Al was their last release ever. This is fun to listen to.

Jimi Hendrix Covers

I've seen lots of tribute albums to Jimi Hendrix. I don't think I have ever seen an album of songs that he covered. Here are the originals of the songs Jimi covered. This pick includes the first original version of the song, or the one that was most popular or well known. For instance The Troggs weren't the first to do Wild Thing, but the band (Wild Ones) that did do that song first is barely known and it's very difficult to get a copy of it. I don't have it. Notice a few Beatles tracks and a couple of Dylan tracks. Not unusual for that time. Enjoy this selection. I may do a compilation playlist of covers of Jimi Hendrix (other people who covered Jimi) some time. I have plenty, I'm just deciding which ones to include. And I probably could do a Hendrix Family pick, but I haven't gotten far with that one yet.
