What's The Connection? Disco 1

I have several volumes of disco songs on this blog, but this is not the same. In fact the genre didn't matter. The songs didn't need to be disco songs (although several of them are). All they needed was to have the word Disco in the title. It couldn't be just a "disco remix" to make it on this connection. It had to genuinely have disco be part of the title. It could be used as a noun like the place called the Disco or an adjective like a ball or a person who was Disco. It could be even used as a verb like you were going to Disco all night or for five minutes. I had another three letter playlist that I called mag that started this one. It was sixteen days ago. It had the Michael Jackson and the Isley brothers on it which made me thnk of doing this. I used a different shorter version of the Isley Brothers on this one.

What's The Connection? Disco 2

The very last day of April, I posted a connection of songs with Disco in the title. This is part two of that collection. This one has less disco in it, but still has disco songs. Including a cover of a disco song with disco in the title from Age Of Chance. It's also got a second Cristina song. Can you believe she has two songs with disco in the title? One about no Disco and one with death to disco one with suicide to disco and one un-disco song. Numbering continues and the cover is very similar.

What's The Connection? Disco 8

This one came together more from sequencing than from any set rules, which suits this Disco connection just fine. The order did more of the work than the idea ever did. Some tracks stretch things out, some feel slightly wrong in a way I like, and some are here simply because they kept insisting. This one happens to be part eight of the series, but it doesn’t behave much differently than the others. Previous volumes live under disco if that matters to you, with more turning up whenever they feel ready, but probably not for awhile since I am exhausted of disco for now. I know, I can't believe it either.

What's The Connection? Disco 4

This is part four of the ever growing Disco connections. I have so many. These ones are mostly actual disco songs although they didn't have to be (and the rest of the WTC's definitely aren't all). Some hits and some deep cuts. And it includes one of my favorite Disco songs (Wilson Place Street Band) although it is cheesy. It is good to dance to. I hope I am dancing as long as Elmer Heinrich and his wife. They look so cute on his commercial. I doubt any of these songs were playing while they were dancing though. A couple in here that were suggested on previous volumes although I already had them in the queue. I expedited them appearing. There are more coming, I just don't know when.

As you probably surmised there are several previous volumes of this connection. You can find Disco on this blog by clicking there. These today are more of the tracks that are disco or disco feeling, plus have the word Disco in the title. See some of the previous WTC's for more info. Similar cover and the numbering continues. That's all today. I'm feeling lazy.

What's The Connection? Disco 3

Part three of this connection. See some previous Disco connections here. Remember these may or may not be actual disco songs (it didn't matter) but did have to include the word Disco in the title. A couple of your recommendations showed up on this volume. I have a few more volumes of these coming eventually (at least seven are nearly ready to go.)

What's The Connection? Disco 7

The rules are still intentionally loose on this Disco connection. Disco doesn’t have to describe the sound, it just has to genuinely appear in the title and not sneak in as a remix label. A few of these tracks had been floating around since earlier volumes and finally found a home here, while others simply made more sense once the pile shifted. This all landed as part seven of the ongoing run, with the numbering and cover style staying consistent. The earlier volumes are collected under disco and the boundaries remain deliberately blurry.

What's The Connection? Disco 6

This is part six of the ongoing Disco connection. The word disco comes from discothèque, which is mildly interesting and completely irrelevant here, much like the organizing logic of this series. It functions mostly as a loose thread rather than an idea anyone needs to follow too closely. Numbering continues, the cover stays similar, and there are plenty more of these sitting around waiting their turn. Previous volumes can be found by clicking disco

Xmas (Christmas) Disco 3

Merry Christmas! A beautiful Christmas morning today and I am posting my pick for Xmas morning with a part three, part one of Xmas Disco came awhile ago and part 2 was just a few days ago, less than a week. Disco is a little bit of a misnomer. Some of these songs are not disco songs at all. But they are Christmas or Christmas related songs by at the minimum disco artists, if they aren't actual disco songs. The Bee Gees, for instance will always be associated with disco, but this ballady Christmas medley was done in the sixties way before they ever even thought of being involved with Saturday Night Fever. But I feel like it still could fit, so I shoved it in here. A couple of Orchestras who all seemed to join the disco craze in the 70's and made some cool Christmas medleys or full length albums segued for you ribbed dancing pleasure. I plucked out a few (leaving some for future comps) trying not to double up on songs. How many disco Sleigh Rides and White Christmases do we need on one playlist? Rhetorical. The answer is: one if possible. Anyway, Merry Christmas!

Xmas (Christmas) Disco 3

37 Bee Gees - Medley-Silent Night-Hark The Herald Angels Sing
38 Kool & The Gang - Joy To The World
39 Salsoul Orchestra - The Salsoul Christmas Suite

51 Christmas Disco Collective - White Christmas (Disco Version)
52 Mirror Image - Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
53 Universal Energy - Christmas For Space

Disco (Mirror) 5

The Disco (Mirror) series continues with volume 5. This pick, as you know,  if you've been following, is a playlist of disco songs that I either danced to or played during the disco era. Some well known and a few that weren't as popular. This volume has one of the worst disco songs of all time: Disco Duck. But you know how I feel about worst songs lists. They sometimes are exactly the same as the best songs list. Or at least there is some overlap. But it's hard to imagine another pick that is hated as much as Rick Dee's Disco Duck. And yet it's highly danceable. Think of it as the chicken dance for disco. This volume also has two Tex's. Different people. Joe Tex who was a contemporary for James Brown and the other was Disco Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes. Disco Tex was a group and Joe considered himself to be better than James Brown, even claiming that Brown stole his dance moves. He has other great hits that may point in that direction back in the 60's. Disco Tex had two hits, one that's on here.

Disco (Mirror) 5

52 Disco Tex & The Sex-O-Lettes - Get Dancing
53 Banbarra - Shack Up
54 Kool And The Gang - Ladies Night (12 inch)

56 Joe Tex - Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman)

58 Joe Bataan - The Bottle
59 Thelma Houston - Don't Leave Me This Way (LV)
60 O'Jays - Love Train
61 John Paul Young - Love Is In The Air
62 Wing And A Prayer Fife And Drum Corps. - Baby Face
63 Gloria Gaynor - Never Can Say Goodbye
64 Frankie Avalon - Venus (Disco Version)
65 The O'Jays - I Love Music
66 Boney M - Daddy Cool (Extended Mix)
67 Machine - There But For The Grace Of God Go I
68 Sylvester - You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)

Xmas (Christmas) Disco 2

Just a bit early, but you need to have some time to play these songs. This pick is about Xmas disco songs. This is part two, for Xmas Disco 1 click to get there. It's not all disco, but disco artists, disco sounding and disco adjacent Christmas songs. I have several hours more, but I try to not repeat a song in these play lists, so a few songs repeat over and over and I can only use it once per pick. If you have any suggestions for more good "disco" Christmas songs, leave them in the comments. For more Xmas compilations, I'm pretty sure I updated them all. Have a Merry Christmas!

Slipped My Disco 1 Connection

This will be a fun start to a several volume set of playlists with the connection of disco. But not just regular disco. These are all bands/artists that were not known as disco bands, but they did a disco song or disco album. I will post the other sets on future Saturday Nites. Some of the artists in the sets may have had their biggest hit with the disco song and for some it was their worst. You judge, not me. I like them all, but then again, I like disco. The album cover (click on it) is a snapshot of a local Bay Area TV station's regular disco dance party, so it's not from the seventies or eighties. Post a comment with your favorite disco song by a non-disco artist, maybe it is coming on one of the other picks.

Disco Dollies 3 (A Life Of Vice)

The last in the Disco Dollies playlist series (for now). Some of these tracks in this pick were destined for volume one, but I saved them for this volume. And a few from compilations like previous volumes. And from a huge variety of musical styles, but all disco covers. I'm not sure if you will like this series better if you are a fan of disco, or you hate disco? Let me know if you are/were a fan of disco music. I guess I will have to post a few of my favorite real disco comps, maybe some slow ballads like the Heatwave Ballads playlist a little bit ago. Anyway you probably noticed that I added a mirror ball to the cover (to match one of my other Disco series pick), but you may not have noticed that I never repeated a song on any of the playlists. There are from playlist volume to playlist volume, but not any on the same playlist.

Disco (Mirror) 1

This is kind of a continuation of the Disco (Leopard) series, but also a beginning of the Mirror series, really the mirror ball series. The cover has a mirror ball with the leopard background, none of which is important to you. This pick series is all the disco songs I liked to play or dance to. Probably hits. Most likely played in discotheques back in the day. There should be no duplicates from the Definitive Disco playlist. And there should be no Bee Gees on this series. Because if you are playing disco and you do not have the best of the Bee Gees with you then what are you doing? Anyway the Definitive Disco pick has the Bee Gee's, the biggest hit from the Village People etc. And I tried to make these all work in tandem.

Disco (Mirror) 1

01 KC And The Sunshine Band - (Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty
02 Tavares - Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel (12' Version)
03 Jacksons - Shake Your Body Down To The Ground

10 Musique - In The Bush
11 Village People - Macho Man (Long Version)
12 The Miracles - Love Machine

Definitive Disco

Although this is officially not part of the Leopard series of disco playlists, this pick was made around the same time. I knew that my picks for the leopard series may not have been the "biggest" hits. These are the result of playin lots of disco parties as a DJ. These are definitely the disco songs that people will automatically dance to. It's my definitive playlist of disco. Later I will post my pick for best disco slow songs. But for now, the best or the cheesiest (depending on your view) disco songs. Notice that the cover is slightly different. Okay, very much different. Best disco songs to get people dancing can include a lot of ground. So, if you have a song that should have been in here, let me know in the comments below.

Definitive Disco

01 Van McCoy - The Hustle
02 Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive

17 Lipps, Inc. - Funkytown
18 Village People - YMCA
19 The Trammps - Disco Inferno
20 Evelyn Champagne King - Shame

Disco Machine 2

Some more of the Disco Machine. Part two of this pick. You can find part one of Disco Machine here. Same metallic leopard cover and some machine like disco songs, plus a few just post disco. Michael Sembello and CCCP pretty much are at the edge of this. What I find funny is that disco became like this machine, pumping out songs that are still danceable today AND they made machine sounding songs that sounded like machines made it. Kind of weird that AI actually can make songs that don't sound like a machine, but are actually machine made. I think if I make a part three of this it would have to include Kraftwerk and Information Society. What do you think it should include?

Disco Machine 2

14 J Dilla - E=mc2
15 Jackson Five - Dancing Machine
16 West Street Mob - Let's Dance (Make Your Body Move)
17 Laserdance - Moon Machine
18 Herbie Hancock - Tell Everybody (Disco Version)
19 Casco - Cybernetic Love
20 CCCP - American Soviets (Mixx It)
21 Lipps Inc. - Funkytown
22 Giorgio Moroder - Automation
23 Debbie Deb - Lookout Weekend
24 Rockets - Future Woman
25 Rockets - Synthetic Man
26 Hot Butter - Popcorn
27 The Magic Disco Machine - Control Tower
28 Miracles - Love Machine
29 Michael Sembello - Maniac (Disco Version)

Disco (Machine)

This is part of the Disco series, but not really part of the leopard series, because I went off track for a couple of them. Disco was accused of being robotic and machine like. And some of it was very much so. This highlights my favorite pick of the best machine like disco. The most influential of all is the Donna Summer which kind of started the whole Machine Soul genre that happened in the 80's (with Yello in here to showcase the alternative side of this whole thing.) I like how this whole playlist builds up in tempo. Notice how the cover has metallic leopard, to sort of tie the whole thing together, but not.

Disco (Machine)

01 John Carpenter - The End (Disco Version)
02 Blondie - Heart Of Glass (Disco version)
03 Crazy Gang - Telephone Computer
04 Yello - I Love You

07 Torch Song - Prepare To Energize (12" Version)
08 Patrick Cowley - Menergy (Full Length Version)
09 Donna Summer - I Feel Love
10 Dee D. Jackson - Automatic Lover
11 Transvolta - Disco Computer
12 Supermax - Love Machine (12" Version)
13 Disco Robot - Disco Robot (Extended Robot Mix)

Slipped My Disco 2

There are so many disco songs done by artists that were not considered disco artists that I could do many of these connections. These are mostly rock bands doing their one obligatory disco song to test the waters. Most never did a second. But we got some great disco tunes because of it. Volume 1 of the Slipped My Disco series was good, but missed by not having these tracks. Click on the cover and leave a comment on your favorite disco song by a non disco band to maybe use in a future Pick.

Slipped My Disco 2

26 Mike Oldfield - Guilty
27 Kinks - Wish I Could Fly Like Superman
28 Paul McCartney - Goodnight Tonight
29 J. Geils Band - Come Back
30 KISS - I Was Made for Lovin' You
31 Camel - Summer Lightning
32 Elton John & Kiki Dee - Don't Go Breaking My Heart

Funky Disco (Leopard) 3

I've done a few of these Funky Disco (Leopard) picks already and I hope you realize how much I like them. I grew up in the disco era and I always was a funk fan, so getting the two together is just bonus time for me. Several funk bands made disco tunes to get more airplay on both radio and clubs. I'm always surprised that people hate or love this genre. Fusing funk with disco or vice versa,  just makes so much sense to me. Later they fused disco with punk and new wave and industrial. I like them all. Notice a few things about this pick. Some are disco bands and some are funk bands. And all have done both. Remember that the Praxis track has nothing to do with the Bill Laswell associated band Praxis. That came later than this one and was much harder than this seventies band. Please leave a comment with a funk/disco track that I haven't used yet that you really like.

Funky Disco (Leopard) 3

43 Brass Construction - Movin'
44 Cameo - I Like It
45 Midnight Star - No Parking on the Dance Floor
46 Earth Wind & Fire - Let's Groove

Slipped My Disco 4

My goodness, we're already at volume four of this series of disco picks. That's because there are so many disco songs by non-disco artists. Although at least one of these never had a bigger hit than their disco hit. Keep commenting with your favorite disco hits, I'm sure I will be making more of these. As usual check out the hand designed playlist cover. And check out the other volumes if you like this one. A couple of second hits, jazz, punk, funk, pop rock and more all trying to get disco.
