It's been awhile since I posted a rockabilly pick. This one is more psychobilly meets gothabilly thank straightup rockabilly. It's got one older pick with Screamin' Jay Hawkins. Not that some of the others don't go back aways, just not that far. There is an "older" Cramps track, for instance. For some reason the rockabilly stuff isn't as visited as some of the other genres. Not sure why, there are some great tracks. All of these are more at a specific end of rockabilly. We'll see how it goes. Tell me what genres you'd like to hear most. Or do you just like to click on the covers, because they're cool? Or do you like to be surprised? By the way the cover today is put together from several sources, including children's book illustrator, Jeff Crosby, that I liked.

I am not one for genres, in every genre I find mostly boring ugly music. And every genre has its pearls. Often a genre gets revolutionised, than stylised and after that it gets traditionalised, with new impulses and modernisations. Rockabilly is a fine example. Mid fifties revolutionised into being, after that it got stylised. and the seventies saw it traditionalised. All fine and well. Good music from Shakin Stevens, Matchbox, Mac Taple, Crazy Cavan, Rocky Sharpe etc etc. After Punk broke Psychobilly came into being and Rockabilly and Psychobilly went on to be both succesfull.
ReplyDeleteMy personal favorites were Suicide (Electrobilly?)
Shockabilly is another band I really loved
As for other genres. Congolese Rhumba stands at my top.
