You Don't Understand, It's Gone

The title of this pick has nothing really to do with the content. It's a line from a stupid commercial that I quote to make my wife laugh. It usually doesn't work. But it's a factor of relief when it does. These are some of the tracks I didn't use for the Mounjaro-of-Rock picks I had over the past week called Semaglutide (probably will have another one or two later) and added in a few tracks that in no way represented that post-grunge sound at all, but just rock. A little southern rock and a couple of under-appreciated rock bands were also mixed in.

Fergie Frederiksen Pick

I'm not sure why I didn't take the chance at the extra alliteration possible to call it a family pick. Fergie Frederiksen Family would have sounded good, but I didn't. I actually started this because of the Jim Peterik connection. He's the reason that Fergie got to sing backup for Survivor. But before that he was in prog band Trillion. He's mostly known for being the other lead singer for Toto. I also figured out he was David London (doing disco for Casablanca records - the tracks here from the Can't Stop The Music soundtrack - The Village People starred in it). He appeared on a bunch of projects, I tried to pick a wide variety. He also wrote a few songs for other artists, but none of those are on here. His real name is Dennis, but Fergie became his nickname when a buddy thought his last name was Ferguson. It stuck.

Top Pick Albums 1985

Yesterday was my Top Pick songs and today it is my top ten pick albums for 1985. Like each month it is the top ten songs (to me) of those albums and then a second side (next ten) of my other favorite song of each. I do have to say that one of these albums I would not choose if it was now. And that is the Cocteau Twins. Not because I don't still love it, but that my rules changed later. In 1985 they put out The Pink Opaque, which is a compilation album. I separated those out later. At the time, I had an ep by them and this, in the US, was the first album I bought of theirs. I'm pretty sure I knew fairly quickly that it was a compilation though.FIshbone came out this year and I ended up seeing them live millions of times. They were so great. Saw them with the Chili Peppers many times, once on this tour opening for Run DMC (ask me about that show). Disappointed with Run DMC but the other two were brilliant. George Clinton was at the show. I partied with the man. PMRC was everywhere, New Order and Kate Bush hit their peak. It was a good year for albums.

Top Pick 1985

It's right here at the end of the month and time for me to share my top picks of the year. These are from the year 1985. Like the last several months first it's my top picks of the year. The top twenty songs (according to me back then). It's from what I chose way back then. Looking back at it today, however, I don't think I would make any changes. Several of these could have been on my best album of the year choice, but they didn't quite make it.

What's The Connection? Roller Coasters 1

There were a lot of ups and downs and a few loop the loops making this connection about coasters. Roller Coasters. I always liked riding them, but never really looked to see how many songs there were about them. Makes sense if you think about it. It can be a metaphor or just about the thrill of the ride itself. It wasn't a steep drop to come up with these songs. The first song that came to mind was the Ohio Players and soon after I thought of the 13th Floor Elevators. And after that they just kept coming. Part two will follow soon after this one. I have around 50 tracks I could use already. Tell me about your best roller coaster ride in the comments. Or your worst one...

Semaglutide 2

A couple of days ago, I posted part one of this pick. Is it really called buttrock? Or post-grunge? Or Dad rock? Who knows? Certainly not me. But I think of it as the Wegovy of rock. Kind of appetite suppressing weight loss of music. For sure the songs can be good, if not cheesy at times. Some are decent hits and at least one is completely AI. Usually one hit and the rest regional. I added a couple of older songs that don't fit what some people call buttrock, and yet they fit in nicely for the GLP of rock. That's why the title is what it is. I'll have at least one more of these, after that you will have to look for your own tracks or find my Bro-Country pick. I think that pairs well with these and a Lone Star beer.

Semaglutide 2

Five To Nine

Yes, I understand you think it's a weird title, but it will make sense by the end of this write-up. This pick started with two songs. The ones from Tom Tom Club and New Order. So started to think how can I get there from here? There were several ways I could go, but I decided to look at the Camelot mixing values. 5A to 9B. If you understand strictly Camelot mixing, you can jump either one number forward or back (5A to 6A is a good mix - keywise) or same number and move from A to B (9A to 9B). There is way more to it than that, but for the basic rule, that's about it. There is a Camelot wheel (search for it if you want to really dive in) that helps you move around with mixes. Obviously there is more than key, there is Energy of a song and BPM of a song. I paid very little attention to that on this mixtape. Within the keys, I adjusted for BPM and ignored energy altogether. Some worked itself out, others didn't at all. Oh, well. That's difference between DJ'ing a live party and picking a compilation for fun. Cover is a play on the Dolly Parton movie logo.

Semaglutide 1

I started with thinking of a couple of bands that had decent songs, but weren't highly thought of as bands would be a good pick. Kind of corporate rock, pop rock or I guess what they call dad rock. Although that seemed like bad name. Maroon 5 and Matchbox 20 and Nickelback came to mind. Decent poppy rock songs from the 80's on. I had a couple of covers and it progressed from there. I found that they called some of this Buttrock (another stupid name) and there were examples. I added stuff from bands that didn't quite fit, but had albums that were pretty good and yet mostly unknown. I added them. Soon I had more than one playlist, so here's part one. I bet we could find at least one or two more volumes. I called it Semaglutide since that is sort of an appetite suppressor and I figured for some, it might reduce your hunger for rock. LOL! I crack myself up.

What's The Connection? Space Invaders

When they first came out, I played a few of the arcade video games. Defender was one of my favorites, but songwriters don't seem to have played it much. Most of these songs have nothing to do with the game Space Invaders, but several bands sang about it. We're going to include any mention of Space Invaders in the title as being about the game in this connection. Probably my second favorite arcade game. I originally only knew of Scientist and the Pretenders doing these songs, but over the years several more have done them. One day there will be enought to these for Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Qix, Defender, Frogger and maybe even Burger Time. But for now, you get this.

Blame It On S.I.V.

I can't imagine that this can go any further, if only because this is 83 bpm and there isn't much five below that. Another five days and it must be the last of these. None of them are my fault. This one is blamed on SIV or Swine Influenza Virus. That's also got to be the end, unless there are going to be made up maladies added to this Blame It On playlist picks and I don't think I will stand for it. So enjoy or don't this last of these and make sure to not take responsibility if you do play it.

Cunning Linguist

A few days ago, it was Bill Clinton's birthday and I posted a pick of songs about oral sex (from one point of view). I thought it would be only fair to post the opposite side. This is it. The cover has the opposite of a word salad since the title was cunning linguist (a person smart with words, unlike this sentence). Fun to make this.

This pick is one of the three letter mixtapes I make. No rhyme or reason to the name this time, except that it is consecutive letters on the keyboard (and I must have hit the shift key in the middle). Mostly just tracks I had been thinking about putting in a playlist and just hadn't done it yet. Leftovers. I had the idea of using the Ohio Players and a cover of one of their songs, so that went in. I was also talking with my buddy (who also was working on my pool) and he had recently seen the Whispers with the O'Jays in concert (I never have seen either, unfortunately) so they were on my mind and that made me think of The Spinners and The Four Tops. The others were already there.

Happy Birthday Bill Clinton!

Today is Bill Clinton's birthday and in his honor I compiled this pick. A playlist of blowjob songs. I did not have sex with that woman. Sure. Yesterday was cigars and now you know why. To get you ready for today. BTW, notice that the lettering of the title below has cigars in the background. I wonder what's in the background of yesterday's lettering? I love that he had the balls to do all of that in the oval office, especially with Hilary around. She's scary to me. And just in case, I am not at all suicidal. Love my life. In either case, Bill is not the first president to fool around, but he got caught and lied about it. No matter what else, let's wish him a happy birthday! All of these songs have to do with oral sex, blow jobs (BJ's), head or whatever you want to call it. Enjoy it!

What's The Connection? Cigars

There's not going to be much of an explanation of this connection today. Tomorrow all will be explained. They kind of go together in a weird way, which you will figure out. On the other hand, I do enjoy a nice cigar once in awhile. I met this couple, let's call them Tim & Kristi. They were nice and really knew cigars. They sent me a box of collector cigars that I smoked (and shared with other cigar friends). I will never forget how totally cool that was. And amazingly great cigars too. I wish I had such great taste to be able to get them that good. But that has nothing to do with this WTC (close but no cigar), although it is a cool story. There are a ton of Pink Floyd covers, but I only included the original and one cover, maybe another time.

Blame It On U.T.I.

I keep thinking these might be over, but it's been another five days and five more beats per minute to drop down this pick to 88. It's not me. I blame it on a UTI. That's what it must be. The burning you are feeling is not the surf, country, garage, rockabilly, rock or pop. It's the UTI. Sorry. Hate when that happens. All in camelot key mixing order although the way this switches, it would be hard to mix this at all. Surprisingly, it still accidentally sounds pretty good.

Blame It On U.T.I.

What's The Connection? Disco 4

This is part four of the ever growing Disco connections. I have so many. These ones are mostly actual disco songs although they didn't have to be (and the rest of the WTC's definitely aren't all). Some hits and some deep cuts. And it includes one of my favorite Disco songs (Wilson Place Street Band) although it is cheesy. It is good to dance to. I hope I am dancing as long as Elmer Heinrich and his wife. They look so cute on his commercial. I doubt any of these songs were playing while they were dancing though. A couple in here that were suggested on previous volumes although I already had them in the queue. I expedited them appearing. There are more coming, I just don't know when.

It Feels So Damn Good

The title of this mixtape pick comes from the lyrics of the Lydia Lunch song (with the Anubian Lights - they were pretty darn good live). Click on Lydia above for more of her songs and a story. These songs started all about the same Camelot key, but some veered off that I wanted to use, so it didn't stay that way. All things I was listening to recently. And it is troubling that they all fit together and it does feel good when that happens. The cover background is ice/snow that looked damn good, so I used it.

18 Fitz & The Tantrums - HandClap
19 Paul Engemann - Scarface (Push It To The Limit)

Blame It On T.S.S.

I'm pretty sure that T.S.S. is Toxic Shock Syndrome, but who knows? I am not responsible for this pick. Although I like some of the tracks on the playlist, I didn't pick them. It is the fault of TSS. Just like the last one of these, five days ago. Exactly the same except five bpm away at 93bpm, but also in camelot mixing order. As if you would ever mix some of these together (how does The Jam into The Coconutz possibly work?) I do enjoy the New Pardesi Music Machine into Lavay Smith: that's genius! But I had nothing to do with it...

Blame It On T.S.S.

01 New Pardesi Music Machine - Pump Up The Bhangra
02 Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers - Blue Skies
03 Stranglers - Golden Brown
04 Pat Boone - Stairway To Heaven

Orange Man Bad

I wasn't sure I was going to post this, but here it is anyway. A playlist for people who just can't get over it. It's funny, there really are people that hate so much, that if Trump would single handedly cure cancer, they would try to get cancer to prove him wrong. I used to think there was a way to talk to people and at least debate rationally about it, but I am seeing more and more that there really is TDS. Those people would rather cancel you than talk rationally. I was not a Trump fan decades ago when I met him. In fact, I thought he was an arrogant ass. I was not important so I was almost ignored (I wired him up for a talk he gave and a radio interview.) He didn't leave a great impression on me. Later when he ran for office, I didn't vote for him and until I started checking what people were saying about him and realized it really was fake news I didn't support him. But after I saw that he was doing what he said he was going to do and I discovered what he actually did, I changed my mind. These songs won't change anyone's mind, but for those who opened their's, they will appreciate these songs. Anyone with TDS, will dismiss this and comment negatively or just block or cancel. That's okay. We know they are infected. Wow, longest intro for awhile.

BTW, I still don't forgive him for treating me like shit. I wish I could meet him again and tell him face to face about it. And before you make a judgement, I am a son of legal immigrants and a poc. I paid for my own way through college and have never been on welfare and believe me I do not have trust fund money. Not even close.

PB & Swiss

I fully realize this pick is not for everyone. I have different tastes than some. But both the music and the sandwich are delicious to me. It was an accidental sandwich. Toasted english muffin with peanut butter in the nooks and crannies and cheese just happened to meet the bite. Kind of like a peanut butter cup. Except cheese instead of chocolate. I've had both sharp cheddar and swiss since then, as well as gouda, but I keep coming back to the swiss. It's delicious. Have you tried this? Would you ever try it? As for the pick of the music on this mixtape, like peanut butter it's pretty straightforward and like swiss cheese nothing too crazy. Almost mild at times. But together does it work for you? It does for me. Try it, you might love it!

Blame It On R.S.I.

I thought these ended. It's not my fault and I won't take responsibility for this pick. Five days more and five less bpm: now down to 98 bpm. Pretty soon we'll run out of songs with the same bpm. Blame It On Repetitive Stress Injuries or RSI. It's probably what I will get unless I make this introduction very short. I'm glad there's a Tom Tom Club on this one. I notice they are in Camelot mixing order.

Ozzy Guest 2

This continues the pick from yesterday in honor of Ozzy Osbourne (may he RIP). These are not Black Sabbath tracks. Although he does guest on solo Tony Iommi and Bill Ward tracks. I have him on a duet with Kelly. And as a featured vocalist with many other artists. With the tracks yesterday and today, that is  most of what I have for Ozzy. He does have some solo album with more guests that I didn't use. But you can easily get those (and you probably already have those tracks anyway). Enjoy this fest of Ozzy! I'm a fan and figured someone else might get a kick out of all these in one place.

Ozzy Guest 1

Since the passing of Ozzy Osbourne I have been listening to quite a bit of Black Sabbath and his solo stuff (as is every fan, I'm sure) But I started to think about some of his guest spots on other people's albums, tribute albums and then even some of his band mates solo albums. I threw in a couple of his own stuff that had him bringing in guests on this pick. Not everything, but a good sampling. At least on on this volume has Ozzy just on background vocals and on the Hurricane Relief track from 2005 he (and his daughter Kelly) only do a few lines each along with a bunch of other stars. I'll continue this tomorrow with even more tracks. I'm sure that eventually some record company will put these on a compilation with probably more tracks, but you have this for now.

Triumphant Light

Another in the ongoing mixtape series that I call the wormhole playlists (behind the scenes) but never out loud or in public. It's based only on the covers and not the content of the songs. The titles all come from a phone game played around the world, so it's possible you recognize it. Ask for my friend ID if you play it. I titled this pick Triumphant Light from that game. I do like the cover background wormhole. I think it looks cool. There are a couple of deep deep cuts on here and a band most people have never heard. Some big hits and some regional hits. I like the couple of songs that are related to Kid Creole. Click that link for a few more. The TG remix is cool and ending with the Isley Brothers is even cooler.

Blame It On I.B.S.

This just isn't going to stop, is it? Too easy to blame someone or something else and not take responsibility. This time it's IBS which can't be fun for anyone. I know how important being regular is for me. I think that would be important even if I didn't feel like I had OCD. Go back a few. It's been five days and it's all new again, but at 103 bpm. I was looking for a house once and saw an ad from a real estate agent that said: "Yet Another Deal Of A Lifetime" (which would probably make a good title for another playlist pick.) I just couldn't help wondering how many deals of a lifetime there could be? Wouldn't there just be one? In this realtor's mind it had to be at least three (because of the word "yet"). Anyway, does that have anything to do with this pick? Who knows?

What's The Connection? Hook 1

This connection is about the Hook. There are many hooks, but it does not include Hooked songs or Hooker songs. Those may come later. You'll have to decide if these pertain to hooks like on the end of fishing lines or in butcher shops. Or hooks like in each of these songs. Some are about hooking up or not hooking up. Some are about the hooks we put into people and a couple about something completely different. None are about Captain Hook, though. Again, you decide which one pertains most for each title.
