Cornell Hurd Pick

Years ago, make that more than a couple of decades ago, I was not living in Texas. I was planning a trip to Dallas. I had no idea how big Texas was then. It's huge. I asked a buddy of mine who was a big music lover and I really respected his musical knowledge (he's also a famous comic book inker) and had been a guest on my radio show many times. I asked if he knew of a good band to see while I was there. He recommended a road trip to Austin to go to a restaurant (Jovitas). They were hosting a band there once a week that was worth the drive. That's what he said. Eat and you see the band. They ended up being the Cornell Hurd Band. On the night we were there half the show featured Marti Brom who was a rock-a-billy singer, but was covering Dorothy Shay that night. She'd done an album with the Cornell Hurd Band. I had not heard of her, Cornell Hurd or Dorothy Shay. They were worth the drive. Amazing rubboard player (Danny). Turns out Cornell was from the San Jose area (probably around when Doug Sahm was there) and had novelty songs played by Dr. Demento and moved to Texas (or perhaps back to Texas). Great sense of humor, great band. Bought a bunch of recordings then and since. Here is my pick. BTW, special thanks to Richard who got me one of the songs I was missing.
