Top Pick 1987

It's the last Thursday and Friday of the month so, here's my top pick of songs from the year 1987. Tomorrow it will be the top albums, but today it is the top singles. And I don't use whether or not it was released as a single as a criteria just any song I liked enough. And there were plenty this year. A couple of Bay Area bands are on  here. I really liked the Endmen. But also a couple of big name international hits. For some reason, I listened to the Throbbing Gristle track a lot this year. In other countries it may have been released in a different year, but for me this was the time. When I found out it was based on a real event, that just made it all the worse/better. It's a long song, but worthit. Lots of variety on here. Negativland from Concord, California was so good live, but their recordings were good too. The covers on here were also definitely good.

  1. I don't remember any of that bar INXS and the Pet Shop Boys. We had very different 1987s, obviously!

    1. That's the best part of these kind of lists, you get to see stuff you never heard!

  2. Top picks from my 1987 memories
This is one from 1987 but I do not clearly remember when exactly I heard it first. I studied in Nijmegen and at that time a new guy started working at the recordstore and he had all kinds of crazy new music called Acid, house, techno. And I am sure he introduced me to Phuture - Acid Tracks
    Other things that year
    Eton Crop - Parafin Brain
The Chesterfields - Ask Johnny Dee
Electro Hippies - Sheep (best song of the year)
    Public Enemy #1 EP

and even if you don't want christmas in this list: The Pogues with Kirsty MacCall - Fairytale of New York is a 1987 song

    1. I do like the Pogues song, though. And now I have to go listen to Electro Hippies! What a great band name.
