This latest Pick shows that just like brisket is on every menu in Texas—prepared every way from traditional BBQ and breakfast eggs to Mexican or Indian fusions—our music has that same endless variety. If you haven't been following along over the last week, check out the previous volumes of Brisket Beats to see how this entire story fits together. Which of these tracks feels like the perfect side dish for a long Texas night out? This set is for anyone, whether you are in Fort Worth or listening from overseas, who wants to feel the "come as soon as you can" energy that defines our state. From the West Side soul and high-energy showmanship to the essential dance floor cumbias, it is that multicultural pride that lets anyone feel like a Texan, no matter where they started.

DeleteThank you for this mix (and the whole series --- though I honestly haven't yet gotten to every volume). I just want to mention that I saw Dale Watson perform live a couple of months ago, and he did a really memorable version of "I Lie When I Drink." He's a great entertainer! Incidentally, he also took some time out to explain how important cumbias are in Texas music.
ReplyDeleteHe's right! Cumbias are a big part of Texas music. I personally love a good cumbia! Check out these cumbias: https://polinatewtc.blogspot.com/2025/05/exicumbias-1.html?m=1
