I've done a few picks where I had Death In June on them and some that were inspired by their work. Just yesterday I had Sixth Comm on a Dark Wave-ish pick (featuring Patrick O-Kill who was in Death In June at one point) and Revelio several months ago, where I talked about the band in that Neo Folk pick. These guys, (really Douglas P and whoever he wants to work with at that moment make up the band) have been post-punk, neo folk, industrial, dark wave, martial marching music and whatever other things people think they are. I don't care what it's labeled, but I do like a lot of their music. So this is my choice of songs of their's. It covers 10 or eleven of their albums over the years - not all of them, but it's a decent sampling. I came up with the name and the cover for it (it sounded like something they would do, but haven't). I see the skull being embossed...

ReplyDeleteI think those are my favorites as well
DeleteGood pick of tracks here. I have a love/hate with Death in June. I really like some of the music. I hate the imagery and politics (more than one of their albums have been banned in Germany). I met Douglas at a bar after one of his shows and he was, well, less than pleasant. Still, separate the artist from their art, and this is still enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteYes their Nazi imagery on some of their stuff is very unpleasant and I'm not into some of their martial marching stuff, but skip over that and find the nuggets. There are plenty of artists that I love their music but hate their politics. Douglas P is one of them. Haven't met him (and he's not on my list to ever hang out with - I can't even imagine your experience)
