Top Pick 1983

So it's the last Thursday of the month and I have been posting my pick of each year in the 80's and posting them. Never did on this site.  I made these into cassettes and then later into CD's and gave them to friends and radio listeners that asked for them. Until I ran out each year. Like the previous top picks, I do the single songs on Thursday and the next day it's the top ten albums. I was still listening to Earth Wind & Fire, but the albums were not that amazing as they used to be. Rap was getting into my sphere, but lots of New Wave was on my radar. I hope you like these choices. All from stuff I owned at the time and played the hell out of. I wonder how much of this I still would keep on the list? Would you put any of it on your list?

  1. I'd say the REM, New Order, and Depeche Mode picks are stone classics, and I also love the tunes by The Cure, Aztec Camera, Soft Boys, Big Country, and The Plimsouls!

  2. 1983 was a year of plenty.
I will give some Dutch Toppers from back then,
and also prior to your album pick, give some albums
that shook my foundation then, and in hindsight.
Cybotron - Enter I only knew them ten years later.
    SepPuKu - Dekompositiones 12'' EP
    DRI - Dirty Rotten EP
Slayer - Show No Mercy. It was the start for their series of brilliance.
Suicidal Tendencies- Institutionalized (5 years later, everybody knew that one)
Jason & The Nashville Scorchers - Fervor
    Clock DVA - Advantage

Well, after these, please take time for
Soft Verdict - Struggle For Pleasure. The title track and Close Cover are as beautiful music can get.

    Dutch delicacies
    VOF de Kunst - Suzanne
Het Goede Doel - België (released late 82, but huge in 83)
The Nits - Nescio (If you do not know his song, look it up)
Hans de Booy had three great songs in 83
Een vrouw zoals jij, Annabel, Thuis Ben

It was a good year for Pop. Bow Wow Wow, What Fun, Nena,
Wham, Fun Fun, Divine, Belle Stars
Tracey Ullman - They Don't Know
