Halloween (Special today only links)

I posted a couple of halloween picks over the years that I called Spooky, but kept some just for myself . Today and today only here are up to date links for the other two Spooky posts that I haven't made yet, but are here for you get now. No track list here, But Spooky 3 is all about crows and scarecrows and Spooky 4 is the more teenager and adult Halloween music. The first track plays from the rock speakers in my front yard after the little kids have already come by. Scariest thing ever: Diamanda Galas but remixed with efx. Someday I will really post them, but today just the links.

Top Pick Albums 1987

First, Happy Halloween! But just because it's a holiday doesn't mean you aren't going to get my top pick of albums on the last Friday of the month (whether you want it or not). Like usual this pick has the top ten albums of the year and by top ten, I mean the ones, I picked back then. The rules were simple for me. I had to own the album (and most were CD's by 1987) and I had to have played the heck out of it. These all follow that. Not sure if they all would still be top albums for me now. For sure there are tracks I still listen to, but who knows. What were some of your favorites in 1987? The sample cover I used is from Satriani. The Silver Surfer is too cool. Top Pick 1987

It's the last Thursday and Friday of the month so, here's my top pick of songs from the year 1987. Tomorrow it will be the top albums, but today it is the top singles. And I don't use whether or not it was released as a single as a criteria just any song I liked enough. And there were plenty this year. A couple of Bay Area bands are on  here. I really liked the Endmen. But also a couple of big name international hits. For some reason, I listened to the Throbbing Gristle track a lot this year. In other countries it may have been released in a different year, but for me this was the time. When I found out it was based on a real event, that just made it all the worse/better. It's a long song, but worthit. Lots of variety on here. Negativland from Concord, California was so good live, but their recordings were good too. The covers on here were also definitely good.

It's close enough to Halloween to post this connection of Monster songs and since it is the last Thursday and Friday of the month the next two days, I will be posting my Top Picks of the year (some year in the 80's) the next two days. So Halloween a little bit early this year. It was fun making this pick of songs. I made sure not use Monster Mash, since you will probably get that on every Halloween playlist every year, but I did use David Bowie and Fred Schneider so I do feel a little bit cheap. You'll have fun with this playlist either way, though. Nothing too scary, excpet for maybe the Gengar on the cover. A ghost pocket monster.

All over the internet there are lists of songs that use Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound production technique. This pick is me cherry picking a few of them. It is by no means a comprehensive look at Phil Spector's work although there are a few of the songs he did produce on this compilation. And there are hundreds of songs that he didn't produce that were inspired by his techniques. This doesn't even dent all of those. It's just my easy pick of the ones that jumped out at me at first glance and that I liked. The Residents mole show and The Dukes Of Stratosphear were the only ones that initially came to mind, although more did after I really thought about it. I put some of the ones in my collection.
